My hope for “As You Are” was to capture someone in their most natural state. I decided to let my model pick the feeling, the location, the outfit, and (most of) the poses. Parts I and II are named “SHADES ON” and “SHADES OFF” respectfully. As sunglasses are an accessory that hide the eyes, which often tell the truth of who a person is, especially on camera. Behind a shade, we can hide our emotions, and our selves from others. Whereas without sunglasses, we can see one’s soul through their eyes, opening us up to a more authentic, unpolished side of ourselves.
